Wednesday October 30, 2024it is exactly 12 p.m. when we enter the door of K+1, inclusive restaurant that hires people with disabilities installed at 34, rue d’Albufera in Vernon (Your).
We are welcomed by Barnabé, waiter, who seats us at our table. “Do you already know K+1 and how it works? », he asks us.
It’s our first step in the restaurant so the waiter gives us recommendations: the order is taken by written, filling out a small box.
Each dish indicated on the menu corresponds to a letter and you simply enter the quantity of each dish in the dedicated box.
Fresh products
This afternoon, we have the choice between three entrances, five dishes et three desserts. We opt for a vegetarian steak and salad as well as a chicken burger served with fries.
For desserts, it will be a gourmet café for everyone. “The number of dishes on the menu varies depending on the week because we only work with fresh produce. There is only our signature burger which is always on the menu,” explains Frédéric Perrot, room manager who supervises the service team.
The room gradually fills up, until it reaches a thirty place settings.
Fast service and hearty dishes
However, the atmosphere remains pleasant and the sound volume suitable. Although it took several months for the restaurant to find its customers, today the services are full to the delight of the team.
At the beginning it was difficult but today attendance is regular. The servers and kitchen teams (the team has always been the same since the opening, Editor’s note) are well supervised and they have all become seasoned.
The service is quick: after a few minutes we receive our drinks accompanied by croutons and an herb sauce to wait until the dish. We arrived at the start of service and the dishes were also quickly served.
First observation: the presentation of the plates is neat and the quantities are copious. The salad that accompanies the vegetarian steak is made up of various vegetables (mushrooms, avocados, carrots, red cabbage, tomatoes, endive and green salad).
The burger is well garnished and its bun is well aired. “The bread is a bun made by an artisan and I make my own homemade sauce,” emphasizes Claude Legendre, chef of the K+1 who arrived in March and who works with three cooks.
The only downside is that we would like a slightly thicker chicken escalope. First stage of the meal was successful, everyone enjoyed it.
A successful experience
Barnabé, always with one eye on our table, comes to clear us up before we move on to dessert. The gourmet coffee is accompanied by five desserts: a scoop of ice cream, a macaroon, a tarte tatin, a cookie and a panna cotta with a red fruit coulis.
Everything was done almost before our eyes, the desserts being assembled behind the bar located at the back of the room. Here too the presentation is worked and the quantities copious.
Result of the shopping, we ate a good meal in a friendly atmosphere. If you are still hesitant, put your prejudices aside and walk through the door of K+1, you will be properly received.
