In August 2022, the Hashemite Royal Court announced in a brief press release that Crown Prince Hussein would soon marry Rajwa Khaled Al Saif. The young woman, who graduated in architecture from Syracuse University in New York, was then a complete stranger. Less than a year later, on June 1, 2023, Crown Prince Hussein married Rajwa in front of more than sixty kings, queens, princes, princesses and presidents from around the world. Their daughter Iman was born in August 2024, the year of Crown Prince Hussein’s 30th birthday. Of the five children of King Abdullah II and Queen Rania, only the eldest, Hussein and Iman, are married. Iman does not yet have children. The baby therefore has the same first name as his aunt.
Article 28 of the Jordanian Constitution regulates the question of the order of succession to the throne. “The royal title passes from the holder of the throne to his eldest son, then to that son’s eldest son, and so on, in a process of linear succession”. Little Princess Iman is therefore not in the order of succession to the throne. According to the current order, Hussein is the heir to the throne, and despite this birth, his younger brother, Prince Hashem retains his second position. The Constitution also allows the sovereign to choose one of his brothers as heir.
