The French group Gojira, opera singer Marina Viotti and Victor Le Masne, are nominated in the Best Metal Performance of the Year category at the Grammy Awards, for their show during the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games.

It was one of the key sequences of the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games: Gojira literally set the Conciergerie on fire with opera singer Marina Viotti by covering the song My fault (Ah! Ça ira!)arranged by Victor Le Masne – to whom we owe, among other things, the anthem of the Games and the arrangements of the ceremonies.

After the success of their show on July 26, the trio found themselves nominated in the Best Metal Performance of the Year category at the prestigious 2025 Grammy Awards, the American music industry awards, which will be presented on February 2 in Los Angeles .

It must be said that the sequence quickly went around the world: on the facade of the Conciergerie – a former prison where she ended her life – several decapitated Marie-Antoinettes held their bloody heads in their hands and sang the famous revolutionary song Ah! it will be fine.

If the success had been immediate, exploding the number of listens to the group on musical platforms, with it inevitably came the criticism, some even accusing the performance of being “satanic”.

Precedents at the Grammy Awards

While Gojira will remain the first metal band to be invited to perform at a Games opening ceremony, this is not the first time that an Olympic performance has been nominated for a Grammy Award.

Before the French, artists like the composer John Williams for his anthem for the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984, or Whitney Houston for her performance at the opening of the Seoul Games in 1989, had already been rewarded.
