Toulouse: Berlioz Trip AR, an augmented reality dive into the Symphonie Fantastique

the essential
La Micro-Folie Ernest Renan is hosting an immersive exhibition on Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique until January 4. An exhibition that combines music, history and augmented reality.

Imagine for a moment being able to dive into the heart of a real symphony. This is the ambitious challenge carried out jointly by the Compagnie Vivante, the Orchester National du Capitole and the team from the Ernest Renan cultural center in Toulouse. Since October 30 and until January 4, the Micro-Folie Toulouse Ernest-Renan is offering a free immersive exhibition at the heart of the work of Hector Berlioz: the Symphonie Fantastique.

A discovery in augmented reality

A journey of approximately 45 minutes allows curious people to come and discover the work around several workshops, including one in augmented reality. “It’s a game of hot and cold sound. You are projected into Berlioz’s head, in the heart of a dark forest and must move around to find all the instruments necessary to help him finish his work” explains Lisa Brizio , cultural mediator.

5 workshops to discover the work

Through 5 different workshops, it will be possible to learn more about the origin of this symphony, the fantastic bestiary that composes it, as well as the exceptional character of this avant-garde work for its time and which remains , still, one of the most performed works in the world.
