Christian Dorsan, author, blogger and contributor to the 20 Minutes Books reading group, recommends “Lune Bleue” by Mariem Raïss, published on May 15, 2024 by Éditions 5 Sens.

His favorite quote:

Il Destino, Selene…. But here we are Dario! We are there! More than twenty years and dozens of Moons of enchanted intersections, made to love each other indefinitely. Who else would have survived this? Our two lives intertwined with each other’s lives. Two parallels that magnetize infinity. »

Why this book?

  • Because Selene, born during a blue moon, second full moon in a month, is endowed with hypersensitivity and great intuition which makes what happens to him exciting. Some would say that she is hysterical or hyperactive, it doesn’t matter, it’s a full life that she takes on, without concession. Text with a strong character like its heroine and a grade of poetry, Blue Moon is a refreshing read.
  • Because at Mariem Raïss, the men are prisoners of their image while the woman emancipates herself from her condition. She confides that she has always felt social conventions as an injustice, a brake on her freedom. Freedom, moreover, for her, is not acquired at birth, it is obtained through constant combat. She is a passionate author who offers us a novel of great sensitivity and sensuality.
  • Because romantic relationships of Séléné are punctuated by those with Dario, the handsome Italian, who despite the years, his marriage, his children, will maintain a soul mate relationship with a karmic vocation. Sweetness and nostalgia from the first kiss of a teenager, the first emotions and the first great sorrow until the meeting with Dario, her life is dotted with men whom she loves and whom she devours. Dario will be the backbone of his love life.

The essentials in 2 minutes

The plot. Séléné is a loving and free woman. She met Dario in her youth and despite their respective trajectories, for twenty years and a few moons, they will cross paths and desire each other.

Characters. Dario the loving Italian, Selene the woman in love and “her men”: Saïd the first love, Noha the romantic and Apolon the feverish; a little star that will never be born…

Places. Rabat, Puerto Rico, Fiumicino a village in Italy, Croissy-sur-Seine

The time current, a twenty-year relationship.

The author. Lover of words, hypersensitive, traveler, Mariem Raïss is an unclassifiable author. Self-published novel in 2023, Blue Moon ended up finding a publishing house to give him a wider audience.

This book has been read as a frantic race towards the freedom to love. The text is a whirlwind that takes the reader through the twists and turns of a relationship over twenty years. The writing moves from I to We, from narration to autofiction, a spiral of words that carries the reader into the carnal language.
