Back in Grignan, this cultural event celebrates the art of letters thanks to correspondence from all periods and in all its forms, from the most traditional to the most contemporary.

In 1996, the year of the tercentenary of the death of Madame de Sévigné, was born in GrignanTHE Correspondence Festival, at the initiative of its mayor Bruno Durieux. It was the beginning of an adventure that would lead to the celebration of a genre: correspondence, a previously neglected literary field which has seen growing interest from readers, authors, publishers and actors for several years.

There 28th edition of the Festival will take place from July 2 to 6, 2024 on the theme “Letters of Heroes”. But what is a hero? “It is the one who does not conceive of life as simple survival, but as an existence irrigated with values” explain Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt, president and artistic director of the Festival de la Correspondance. “The hero does not oppose, he acts in favor of an ideal, he becomes its flesh and voice. He is not “against” but “for”. Aware of the value of life, he also knows how to understand the price of death

The men and women whose correspondence we will discover may not be heroes in everyone’s eyes, but they embody rich, unique, singular lives, who strive to resist vicissitudes. Their stories can instill courage. By soaking ourselves in their strength, we will nourish our own”.

The loyal and passionate audience proves if necessary that correspondence has more than ever its place in today’s cultural, social and artistic life. Exchange, discovery, sharing are the very essence of this Festival. Find the whole program HERE
