Tomb Raider (Netflix): a teaser and a release date for the animated series about Lara Croft

The streaming platform Netflix has announced the launch date of its animated series dedicated to Lara Croft: it will arrive on our screens on October 10. Titled Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croftthis eight-episode series is also revealed through a new teaser.

The Return of the Grave Robber

This animated series takes place after the events of the video game trilogy Tomb Raider: Definitive Survivor (tomb Raider released in 2013, Rise of the Tomb Raider in 2015 and Shadow of the Tomb Raider in 2018) and tells the continuation of the adventures of the globe-trotting heroine known to fans of Core Design and Crystal Dynamics games.

An emblematic tomb raider in the world of video games, and first introduced in 1996, Lara Croft continues, twenty-five years after her first game, to explore unknown lands and solve ancient mysteries.

The adventures of this cult heroine have already been the subject of several film adaptations where Lara Croft was played by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander. She was also previously at the center of a rather disastrous animated series in 2007 called ReVisioned: Tomb Raider.

The new Netflix series should, we hope, raise the level. Produced by Netflix and Legendary Entertainment, also behind the latest films Godzillait is written by Tasha Huo (The Witcher: Legacy of Blood) and can count on animation signed by Powerhouse Animation Studios (Skull Island).

On the casting side, in the original version, it’s Hayley Atwell (Captain America, Impossible mission) which doubles the adventurer. She is accompanied by Allen Maldonado, who lends his voice to Zip, and Earl Baylon, reprising the role of Jonah Maiava that he played in the video game.

Note that a live-action series tomb Raider is also in preparation at Amazon. Phoebe Waller-Bridge (creator behind Fleabag and actress seen in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny) is responsible for writing this new show about Lara Croft for Prime Video. However, we do not yet know when it will arrive on the streaming platform.
