To inaugurate its new season, the Capitol Theater invites you to an exceptional baroque evening of October 24 to 30, 2024. On the program, two legendary ballets by Christoph Willibald Gluck“Sémiramis” and “Don Juan”, reinterpreted by the choreographers Ángel Rodríguez and Edward Clug. Placed under the musical direction of the master Jordi Savall and its whole “The Concert of Nations“, this evening promises total immersion in the world of ballet-pantomime.

Jordi Savallundisputed specialist in early and baroque music, will lead his ensemble “The Concert of Nations“, offering an immediate immersion in the world of Gluck. Three scores, never assembled until now, will form the sound setting for this exceptional evening.

The first part of the evening is dedicated to Semiramischoreographed by Ángel Rodríguez. Inspired by the legendary character of the Mesopotamian queen, Rodríguez pays poignant tribute to all womenthose of yesterday, today and tomorrow. In his choreography, he celebrates the strength of mothers, daughters and sisters, putting them in parallel with Sémiramis, a figure both mythical and human, who defends his beauty and his power in the face of the passage of time. This ballet blurs the boundaries between legend and reality, to offer a striking vision of femininity through the ages.

After an intermission, the evening continues with one of the greatest myths of Western culture: Don Juan. The choreographer Edward Clug confronts this immortal figure of the seducer with a contemporary approach. As a faithful interpreter of Gluck, he fuses baroque music with modernized movements, transforming Don Juan into a danced allegory. Clug thus updates the universal themes of seduction, power and fall, while maintaining a contemporary resonance.

This program, with its two contrasting ballets, offers you a unique experience of its kind. Of the feminine power of Semiramis to the immortal legend of Don Juanthis evening is a true exploration of universal themes, magnified by modern choreography and music that spans the centuries.
