The horror film “Smile 2” took first place at the North American box office, far ahead of the animated film “The Wild Robot” in second place, according to projections on Sunday by the specialist firm Exhibitor Relations .
Paramount’s new horror film “Smile 2,” about a pop star (Naomi Scott) afflicted by a sinister curse, grossed $23 million this weekend, a debut described as “excellent” for the second part of a franchise of this genre, by David A. Gross, analyst at Franchise Entertainment Research.
The first film “Smile”, also directed by Parker Finn, grossed $22.6 million upon its release in 2022 and ultimately $217 million worldwide.
The animated film “The Wild Robot”, a science fiction fresco from the animation studio DreamWorks, comes in second place, with $10.1 million earned.
“Family films came back in force after the (Covid) pandemic and are in very good health now,” analyzes David A. Gross.
“Terrifier 3”, produced by independent studios Cineverse and Icon Events, where a terrifying clown, Art, returns to spread terror as the Christmas holidays approach, earned $9.3 million.
In fourth place, “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” raised $5 million. Michael Keaton returns to the striped costume of the sinister and prankster “bio-exorcist” trying to rally the world of the living.
