In brief:

  • Bernard Garo photographs glaciers to raise awareness about their disappearance.

Like a painting

Fabienne Levy – Since the ECAL diploma exhibition in 2019, Alina Frieske (1994) has quickly flirted with success. In Switzerland, Germany or the United States, the collectors are there. It owes its notoriety to the harmonious encounter between the photo and the painted gesture. If his compositions sometimes allude to rococo paintings, they are nevertheless deeply anchored in the social media generation, its main source of raw materials. The Berliner thus creates her palette of colors and shapes from fragments taken in particular from selfies, which flood the image applications. She then “paints” moving scenes with pigmented touches. His photomontages are astonishing. New in her work: she also plays the veiled-unveiled way by superimposing aluminum cutouts on her “photos”. I’m a fan, obviously!

Lausanne, Ruchonnet 6 and Geneva, Vieux-Grenadiers 2, Wed-Fri 10 a.m.-6:30 p.m., Sat 11 a.m.-5:30 p.m. > Tue 17 Nov. www.fabiennelevy.com

Unusual shift

Christophe Rey, “Study for a pizzeria or perch fillet restaurant brand”, various materials, 235 x 250 x 172 cm, 2024.

Alone Place – A true ascensional laboratory, Catherine Monney’s space reserves its share of unusual encounters. The one with Christophe Rey (1967) is one of the most offbeat. On the emotional barometer, we flirt with the maxima. Multifaceted, the Genevan hesitates between the writer who creates or the artist who writes. The exhibition is a bit of all that. With as a central piece, an installation initially used to test and photograph his still lifes, a sort of totems accumulating objects from his domestic universe (toast, ketchup, sponge, etc.), into which he is inserted. Today, this installation is a sculpture in itself. The photos thus produced coexist with equally fanciful works written in chalk, charcoal and graphite. Associated with Stendhal’s “Privilèges” – which the artist could have co-written – this set boosts the mind. Art is thus (de)complexified.

A child’s dream is 5 years old

Tonatiuh Ambrosetti, “Untitled” (left), Sakura ink on old linen, 54 x 36 cm, 2019, and “Cosmic Warrior”, cyanotype, 24 x 19 cm, 2017.

Aarlo u Viggo – Summarize this 5e birthday in a word? The dynamic gallery owner Camille Montandon retains the “dream”, dating back to childhood, realized in an itinerant way from 2015, and permanently since 2019, in a family apartment of 120 m2. Jean-Marie Reynier, artist and, since the beginning, curator with Ondine Jung, speaks rather of “resistance” when thinking of the concept launched just before Covid. We therefore owe the existence of this unusual space to a constant complicity with around forty artists exhibited, almost all present in a collective whose common thread is the abundant plants and human nature. A coherence where Tonatiuh Ambrosetti and a photographer whose false name is Dean Moriarty join. A cheerful stroll among 150 paintings, drawings, engravings, photos, texts and ceramics.

Buchillon, rue de Lessert 1, is-ve + 1is Sat of the month 2 p.m.-7 p.m. or by appointment > Sat Nov. 23 aarlouviggo.com

The reality in front

Bernard Garo, “Untitled”, charcoal print (Fresson print 1/3), 60 x 60 cm, 2024.

L’Atelierphoto – Bernard Garo (1964) likes to look reality in the face. In this case the disappearance of glaciers, which he immortalizes with an uncompromising look. Tight shots, dark and bright at the same time. The Nyonnais plays here with light, a technique that is dear to him as a painter. “Glaciers – Coal Skins” also gives pride of place to the printing process developed by the Fresson laboratory in . The exhibition therefore highlights the relationship between the melting of glaciers, accelerated by coal, and the slowness of the silver process. To the point that ultimately, aesthetics take precedence over drama. And the technique over the message, even if I appreciate the total commitment to the causes that the artist has at heart.

Nyon, Grand-Rue 13, Mon-Fri 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Sat 9 a.m.-1 p.m. > Sat 26 Oct. olivier-evard.ch

Varnishings and finishings

Robert Ireland, “The Fleurdelisé Elephant”, walnut husk on paper, 50 x 70 cm, 2023.

10.galerie – From today, Robert Ireland’s exhibition takes us, as often, into a mise en abyme of works whose source we do not really know. Except that they found favor in the spirit of the workshop. As he says, “the history of the image is also that of homage.” Enough to tickle our neurons. 10galleryavenue des Alpes 10 > ve 8 nov. @10.galerie

Catherine Demierre, “Untitled”, collage and oil on canvas, 120 x 100 cm, 2024.

Yverdon – Finishing Saturday (2 p.m.-6 p.m.) of the exhibition bringing together the energizing paintings of Catherine Demierre, the photos at the heart of the cycles of nature by Cédric Bregnard, the drawings of Irène Dussoix and the sculptures of Pi Ledergerber, friends of the gallery who have already exhibited together in 2022. Kaminska & Stocker, rue de la Plaine 22 > Sat October 19 kaminskastocker.com

Ropraz – New guest at 3e floor of the space, Raffaella Bruzzi creates a sensual “Highlighting” of her landscapes, reflections of the soul. Serenity between land, sea and meadow. Finishing in ten days, at the same time as “Métamorphose”, which brings together the delicate sculptures of Marta Blanc and the playful mixed techniques of Marion Gétaz. L’Estrée, Bourg-Dessous 5 > Sun Oct 27 estree.ch

Simon Paccaud, “Living Paintings”, wood, spray, works and objects from various sources, 319 x 537 cm, 2024.

Prilly – Whether you are an artist or a visitor, you have until November 3 to bring an object that is close to your heart and contribute to the participatory work of Simon Paccaud, who will thus end his five-month residency in Cery. The trinkets can also be moved so that this exhibition is alive. And she is! Espace Cery, route de Cery 60 > on Nov. 3 vu.chuv.ch

Malgorzata Stankiewicz, «Untitled (Rampant deforestation driven by global greed meat»), tirage chromogène unique, 64 x 86 cm, 2018.

Martigny – Winner of the Public Prize from the Friends of the Pully Art Museum two years ago, Malgorzata Stankiewicz takes us, for her first solo exhibition, into photographic work that explores the balance of power between human beings and nature. Louis Moret Foundation, chemin des Barrières 33 > Sun Nov 3 fondationlouismoret.ch

Stefania Carlotti, “Great Expectations n. 8”, papier-mâché, cardboard, putty, paint, gelatin sheets, glitter, 310 × 60 x 60 cm, 2024.

Lausanne – Double exhibition to enjoy for some time to come. Stefania Carlotti combines her “Greatest Hits” between sculpture and video with a look full of irony on her environment. In the glass space, Delphine Coindet calls out to us with “Euphoriaslashmelancholia” and colorful displays in relation to architecture. Tunnel Tunnel, place du Tunnel 24 > sat 9 nov. tunneltunnel.ch
