Given the length of the film, the decision was made to cut it into two parts. “Kill Bill volume I” and “Kill Bill volume II” were released six months apart, arousing distrust, hatred or absolute enthusiasm from the media and moviegoers around the world.

In 2003, when the first volume was released, the criticism was not kind. Mess, indigestion, spaghetti western, gore guacamole, manga, nursing film, blaxploitation, pulp, Z, erotic thriller, trash, revenge, kung-fu, samurai film, are the words that we find most written in the press. You should know that expectations were high for the little American genius, Palme d’Or at for “Pulp Fiction”, a few years earlier.

When the second volume was released, less bloody and easier to follow, the reviews were more favorable. The film, however, enters into cinema legend. Its references, its costumes which have become cult like Uma Thurman’s yellow outfit, the filmmaker’s obsession with feet, shod or not, and the blood that squirts everywhere.

Quentin Tarantino is a red-hot filmmaker who likes it to splash. So much so that he imagines a third part of “Kill Bill”. A new story of revenge that will never happen.

“Kill Bill – volumes I and II” can be seen in double screening at the Cinémathèque de Lausanne on Friday October 11, 2024 at 7 p.m. It is also broadcast on Saturday October 12 on RTS 1 from 11 p.m. These two films will then be available until the end of October on Play RTS.
