The Auvergne orchestra revives the memory of Shostakovich

As part of its chamber music program, the Orchester national d’Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes is offering a program this Wednesday in memory of Dimitri Shostakovich.

Dimitri Shostakovich is considered one of the greatest composers of the 20th century. His music was undoubtedly marked by the tumults experienced during a life punctuated by health problems and relationship concerns with the political power of the Soviet Union. Throughout his life he held bureaucratic positions, notably in the Supreme Soviet, but his music was considered too formal for those in power. The 1936 episode is the perfect illustration of this. Stalin attending a performance of his opera Lady Macbeth from Mtsensk district leaves the room furious at what he heard. There Rights title in stride “Chaos instead of music. » Dimitri Shostakovich narrowly escaped deportation or perhaps elimination. Thinking for a moment about suicide, this episode will have a significant impact on his mental health.
Despite everything, he is the author of fifteen symphonies, six concertos, and numerous pieces of chamber music. His work also includes three operas and ballets and music for theater and cinema.
