In 2024, fashion is in! Disappointing documentaries and biopics have flourished on many platforms. After the failure “The New Look”, Apple TV+ has found color since September 20 with “La Maison”, a pure fiction with Lambert Wilson, Amira Casar and Carole Bouquet.

From the opening of “La Maison”, Vincent Ledu is at work. Arrogant, impatient, uncompromising, he must deliver a wedding dress to a rich Korean who is nitpicking. Irritated, Vincent makes a Galliano, named after a fatal slip that remains famous. His racist outbursts against “Korean dog eaters” filmed without his knowledge leaked on Instagram. The global bad buzz is underway. His fall is planned. Diane Rovel, her competitor with the predatory smile, is delighted.

Far from the Ledu-Rovel squabble, Paloma and Nelly-Ye caused a sensation at Fashion Week with their first collection made from recycled materials, smuggled out of Ledu’s trash bins. These young creators want to revolutionize an industry that is disrespectful of the planet. What if Paloma became Ledu’s lifeline? For this, Vincent must give up his place. Pearl, his lifelong muse who has become his right arm, intends to force his hand.

With this main dramatic arc around an estate, fashion takes a back seat, which does not prevent the series from brilliantly paying homage to creators and little hands. The interest therefore rests above all on this dysfunctional Ledu family where resentments, jealousies, humiliations and false pretenses are present at every meal or meeting.

A parade of stars

Faced with this Vincent with his exacerbated narcissism, his deceitful brother Victor seems more demonic. Having moved to the Rovels after his marriage to Diane’s daughter, he plays dangerously on both counts. For his part, Robinson, son of Marie, Ledu’s sister, would take over the artistic direction, but his uncle Vincent takes him away. As for the harmless Paloma Castel, the piece linked to the Ledu, she could prove to be tougher and more deceitful than she seems.

With such a gallery of characters using and abusing low blows, treachery and manipulation, a parade of stars was needed to match it. It is!

Fabrice Gobert (“Les revenants”, “Mytho”) enjoys filming a regal Lambert Wilson in this Ledu palace, a tasty Carole Bouquet as a brittle and cynical woman of power, a luminous Zita Hanrot as a quiet force, a moving Antoine Reinartz as a Calimero. Pierre Deladonchamps, Amira Casar, Anne Consigny and Florence Caille wonderfully complete this high-flying cast.

The cameos also bring a very appreciable addition of reality when the model Eva Herzigová, the journalist Miss Agnès sneak onto the screen during a fashion show or when Amanda Lear arrives as a fanciful wealthy client. “La Maison” finally embodies a series where not only is fashion pleasant to contemplate, but where the questionable actions of this family of ego-trippers keep you in suspense.
