Disappearance. The funeral of Bernard Pivot will take place Tuesday in Beaujolais

The funeral of TV presenter and writer Bernard Pivot will take place on Tuesday in Quincié-en-Beaujolais (Rhône), the village of his childhood, before an upcoming tribute in Paris, his daughter said this Thursday.

The religious ceremony will take place at 2:30 p.m. in the small village church whose hostApostrophes was a municipal councilor and where he owned a house.

“In my parents’ grave”

Bernard Pivot, who died Monday at the age of 89, will be buried in the town as he wished. “Wine and books are the ties that tie me to Quincié” and “I know that a place awaits me in the cemetery in my parents’ tomb,” he declared in 2018 to Progress.

The Quincié library bears his name. “Twice a year, the mayor takes his car to come pick up several hundred books that I donate to the library,” he reported at the time.

A strong link with Quincié

Each year, the literary journalist also gave his name to a vintage from the Quincié-en-Beaujolais cooperative cellar. “I have a physical relationship with Beaujolais, an earthly relationship,” he also declared in 2016.

Tributes were unanimous upon the announcement of his death. The President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron estimated that he “will remain this smuggler, popular and demanding, dear to the hearts of the French”.

The date and arrangements for a ceremony in Paris have not yet been set.
