After receiving a Rolex as a gift for having climbed Everest, Inoxtag’s double discourse singled out – Libération

The influencer GMK, popular for his luxury car collections, gave a Rolex watch to YouTuber Inoxtag on Friday, October 4. On social networks, this gift arouses controversy, while the one who climbed Everest has continued to denounce a materialist society.

In his 2h26 documentary on his successful ascent of Everest, Inoxtag advocated last September the return to a simple life and the end of excessive materialism. “Look how they have less than us but still continue to be happy,” proclaimed the 22-year-old YouTuber in this video, for example, pointing to Nepalese children and old people. And the young man added, against the background of realizing his privilege: “We Westerners live a life of luxury.» Or again: “I’m spoiled, people go out of their way to get up at 6 o’clock!»

But Friday October 4, when the YouTuber and influencer GMK, specialized in videos showing off luxury cars, published a video on Instagram in which we see him offering a Rolex watch to his friend Inoxtag, voices were raised against a supposed double beginner mountaineer language.

“Convey humanist values to end up with a Rolex and champagne on Instagram… a little consistency and above all a little decency. In his report, Inoxtag highlighted the importance of disconnecting from screens, of detaching oneself from materialism and we see him putting himself on stage to receive a Rolex but you are talking about jealousy while I am talking about coherence in his words. can we read on the social network

This message, like dozens of others, denounces the lack of “consistency” between the values carried by Inoxtag in its documentary and this luxury gift. Because according to the media Interludespecialized in internet culture, the price of the model of this watch is estimated at 18,500 euros.

“You should congratulate your friends when they accomplish extraordinary things. […] Champagne for Everest, and for Inoxtag”, on the contrary, enthuses GMK, whose real name is Georges Maroun Kikano. Thus, under the video of this 31-year-old French millionaire YouTuber based in Monaco – and who made his fortune thanks to various real estate and entrepreneurial activities – his fans greet “a pure and honest friendship”, “a magnificent gesture apart from its monetary value”or even “a beautiful bond” between the two content creators. Another internet user questions: “How does it go against one’s values to accept a luxury watch as a gift?” For its part, Inoxtag thanks its friend: “I don’t have the words to thank you. Apart from the gift, your simple support did me good.
