To be convincing in the role of the former president of the United States, the “Avengers” actor had to change his diet.
Reverse diet for Sebastian Stan. The Romanian-American actor, who plays Donald Trump in the biopic The Apprenticein theaters Wednesday October 9, had to rethink his diet to transform himself. The one who displays an athletic figure in the Marvel films, where he plays the Winter Soldier, has drastically increased his sugar consumption in order to be convincing in the role of the former president of the United States.
“Ali (Abbasi, the director, Editor’s note) just said to me, ‘Eat, I need your head to become rounder,’” he told JDD this Sunday.
“I started drinking three cans of soda a day. There was a break for the summer holidays, so I let myself go and weighed down seven kilos. I didn’t lose it all…”
“I ordered him to eat exclusively burgers”
Set in the 1970s-1980s, The Apprentice follows the rise of a young Donald Trump, then a real estate businessman, well before the emergence of his political ambitions. Ali Abbasi also spoke to the JDD about the instructions he gave to Sebastian Stan to blend into this character:
“I ordered him to eat exclusively burgers, the people at Marvel were scared. You realize: Bucky Barnes, aka the ‘Winter Soldier’ of the Avengers, was getting fat!”
“Error on my part, we made prosthetics for his face when he was thin,” he continues. “But he became too chubby, so much so that they no longer fit. So I told him to lose a little weight, he thought I was crazy, a capricious director who didn’t know what he wanted .”
And to praise the “mimicry” of his actor, who “modified his way of walking, of moving, of speaking”: “Sebastian was so credible and so disturbing that I thought I was going to need a exorcism session at the end of filming!”
