The bronchiolitis epidemic is looming in France. After Brittany, the Hauts-de-France region has also entered the pre-epidemic phase.
Ile-de-France, Hauts-de-France, Brittany
Wednesday November 6, Public Health France announced that the bronchiolitis begins to spread in mainland France. Indeed, the region Hauts-de-France has moved into the pre-epidemic phase, reports TF1.
Note that Ile-de-France is the first region to suffer this disease in France, and at the end of October, Brittany also entered pre-epidemic in the face of the increase in cases.
Rising indicators
The health agency indicated that syndromic indicators linked to bronchiolitis have been increasing in community medicine as well as in hospitals. However, the data remains at lower levels compared to those observed the three years prior to the same period.
As a reminder, the disease has already affected overseas territories, as Guadeloupe and Martinique have been in an epidemic phase since the end of October and Guyana since the end of July.
Two preventive treatments
In detail, from October 28 to November 3, 1,740 children under the age of two went to the emergency room for bronchiolitis and 542, mostly babies under the age of one, were hospitalized.
This season is marked by the deployment of two preventive treatments, namely the Beyfortus antibody from AstraZeneca and Sanofi as well as the Abrysvo vaccine from Pfizer.
