Since 2017, the Brest Surf Film Festival has hosted the best in surf film production for four days and four nights. This 7e edition brings together enthusiasts of the oceans, strong emotions and the beauty of the elements from May 8 to 11, 2024, in Océanopolis. No less than 18 countries are represented through a selection of 25 short, medium and feature films.
Landmark films
Wednesday, May 8, at 6 p.m., a short film produced by second-year surf studies students from the Laënnec high school in Pont-L’Abbé will be broadcast. His title : A wave of truth. The story of a young surfer who, unable to pay her registration fees, approaches her coach who offers to help her in exchange for a sexual relationship. She turns to the other girls in the club and seeks support from them.
Thursday May 9, at 6 p.m., Europe Day will be revisited from the perspective of skiing, with the documentary Surf on, Europe!. This 92-minute film explores the promise of freedom offered by Europe and the persistent challenges that threaten it through three portraits united by the same passion, that of gliding on the waves.
Friday May 10, same time, don’t miss it African Territory 2, the second part of the Azulay brothers’ epic journey through southern Africa. Argentinian Julian Azulay, explorer and pioneer of virgin waves, will be present for this preview.
Surfing lessons for €15
We end Saturday May 11 with Maya and the Wave, the extraordinary story of Brazilian Maya Gabeira, one of the world’s best big wave surfers, the first to receive a Guinness Book World Record. A story of resilience, courage and surpassing oneself.
And for those who would like to brave the waves beyond the big screen, surf lessons at a reduced rate (€15) are offered by several local schools as part of the festival.
