The Abracadabulles festival will play its 23rd edition on October 5 and 6, 2023 in Les Sables-d’Olonne in Havre d’Olonne.

It’s a story that has been going on for 23 years now. Claude Durand, former director and still a volunteer in the association, confides:

“Abracadabulles was born in 2000 from the shared passion for comics of its founders, Serge Perrotin, science fiction enthusiast and comic book scriptwriter, and Gaël Séjourné, designer. The objective was to create a comic book festival by comic book authors and for comic book authors, without forgetting conviviality and exchanges with the public. »

The first festival took place in July 2000. “Over the years, it has grown in size and fame. For this 23e edition, they will be 35 authors (including six manga) coming from different backgrounds, with inspirations as varied as their stories and their passions,” says Claude Durand.

Promote young artists

The association’s volunteers keep reminding us:

“The purpose of the Abracadabulles festival is to promote young artists. The “Young Talent” prize from the town of Sables-d’Olonne rewards and encourages young artists from all backgrounds each year. »

This prize is reserved for young artists who have not created more than three albums.

Finally, the originality of the competition is that the young winner will be financially supported for the following two years by designing the poster for the following festival and the bookplate two years later. Claude Durand adds:

“Abracadabulles is in keeping with the times and has opened its doors to the world of manga since 2019. There will be six for this 23rd edition coming from and Germany. »
