Among the flagship roles of his career, the British actor played King Théoden of Rohan in “The Lord of the Rings” and Commander Edward John Smith in “Titanic”. He was 79 years old.

Actor Bernard Hill, famous for his roles in cult films Titanic And The Lord of the Ringsis dead, as the actor’s agent announced to the BBC this Sunday, May 5. He was 79 years old.

Among the key roles of his career, Bernard Hill played King Théoden of Rohan on screen in Peter Jackson’s famous trilogy. He also played Commander Edward John Smith in James Cameron’s disaster film.

Career on the small screen

Thanks to these roles, Bernard Hill is the only actor to have played in two films which were each rewarded with 11 Oscars, the most awards in the history of cinema (with Ben Hur).

For the small screen, the British comedian starred in the award-winning television adaptations of I, Claudius and the trilogy Henry VIas well as in Boys From the Black Stuff for which he received the BAFTA Award for Best Actor.

The British comedian also starred in Found guilty by and with Clint Eastwood, The Scorpion King by Chuck Russell, Gothika by Mathieu Kassovitz, The Most Beautiful Victory by Richard Loncraine or in Valkyrie by Bryan Singer.
