France Télévisions wants to make 200 million euros in savings over a full year by 2028, half of which on programs.

“It’s a difficult decision but we have made the choice to stop this program.” In an interview with La Tribune Dimanche, Stéphane Sitbon-Gomez, director of antennas and programs at France Télévisions, announces the end of the show Numbers and letters at the next school year.

“The weekend programming Numbers and letters was not crowned with success,” he explains.

Stéphane Sitbon-Gomez specifies that a “farewell show will bring together Patrice Laffont and Laurent Romejko and will thank the whole team”.

200 million savings

“After fifty years of existence, it is an emblematic meeting,” he adds. Created in 1965 the game is distributed under the name The longest word until September 29, 1970. It then became Numbers and letterson January 4, 1972. It is thus the oldest program of the PAF after The day of the Lord.

France Télévisions wants to make 200 million euros in savings over a full year by 2028, half of which on programs. “President Delphine Ernotte asked me not to touch the major emblematic meetings”, indicates Stéphane Sitbon-Gomez to La Tribune Dimanche.

Arielle Boulin-Prat and Bertrand Renard “evicted”

The game show Numbers and letters had already recently experienced turmoil. In 2022, it goes from daily broadcast to biweekly, on Saturdays and Sundays.

The figures of the show Arielle Boulin-Prat and Bertrand Renard, for respectively 47 years and 36 years, then evoke a “forced and forced” departure from the game. They thus announce that they have contacted the industrial tribunal, demanding the reclassification of their fixed-term contracts of usage passed on a permanent contract, and the recognition of a “zero break”, with compensation at stake. The hosts had received the support of many viewers.

In addition to this emblematic program, Stéphane Sitbon-Gomez announces that programs launched this year on France 2 will not be renewed, like Bertrand is not sleepy or even In an organized group.
