Salomé Parent-Rachdi is a French independent journalist. She lived in Ramallah, Jerusalem and Tel Aviv between 2017 and 2020. Among her numerous reports, she conducted an investigation into the conditions of romantic and sexual lives in and Palestine: together or separately, in mixed couples or within even from their communities, straight or LGBTQI+, the 14 stories selected show individuals who aspire above all to live freely, whether to start a family or explore their desires. But in these territories where everything seems exacerbated, they often come up against religious prohibitions, racist prejudices or administrative constraints. Love, sex and the Promised Land: behind this B series title, Salomé Parent-Rachdi’s book, illustrated by Deloupy, sheds light on complex realities and societies.

As we turn the pages of this documentary comic, we begin to think about the power of the tales of Thousand and one Night: these stories, some of which border on fables, take us away for a moment from the harsh images of war, while giving us tools to think about it differently.
