From this Saturday, April 27 and until April 30, Tangier will be at the center of attention, when it hosts International Jazz Day, which is taking up residence in Africa for the first time. The global musical event is organized by the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication in collaboration with UNESCO.

Behind the scenes of the Palace of Arts and Cultures in Tangier, the final preparations are being put in place for International Jazz Day, dated April 30. Under the supervision of the Regional Directorate of Culture of Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima as well as the wilaya of Tangier, the tourist region of Malabata, housing the new palace which will be inaugurated for the occasion, is being equipped with all necessary facilities.

Teams have recently been busy painting the facades and surrounding areas of the palace, while repairs to public lighting have been finalized to illuminate the streets and surrounding spaces. Work has intensified as the day approaches, aiming to create a welcoming atmosphere for distinguished guests, including government officials, international delegations, renowned musicians and representatives of more than 35 foreign media.

A preliminary press conference is also planned, bringing together among others Mehdi Bensaïd, Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Audrey Azoulay, Director General of UNESCO, and Tom Carter, Director of the Herbie Hancock Institute of jazz. It will be held on April 29 to present in detail the overall program and highlights of this musical event.

As a reminder, this anthology concert will bring together the best of jazz from four continents. Called “All- Global Concert”, it will see some legends of world jazz parade on stage including Dee Dee Bridgewater ( States), Marcus Miller (United States), Melody Gardot (United States), Kurt Elling (United States). United), JK Kim (Republic of Korea), Kurt Elling (United States), Yasushi Nakamura (Japan) and Magnus Lindgren (Sweden). The list also includes African artists, such as Richard Bona (Cameroon) and Moreira Chonguiça (Mozambique), as well as the Moroccan mâalem gnaoui Abdellah El Gourd.
