11 years before facing the Avengers in the costume of Loki, British actor Tom Hiddleston made his first steps on screen in a television adaptation of Charles Dickens.

Today, all Marvel fans around the world know him for his memorable interpretation of Loki, rival brother of Thor and then sworn enemy of the Avengers, a charismatic character that he played 6 times in the cinema, then in two seasons from his own series.

Popular and talented actor, Tom Hiddleston is now well established in the Hollywood landscape, juggling blockbusters and new feature films from prestigious filmmakers such as War Horse by Steven Spielberg, Crimson Peak by Guillermo del Toro and Only Lovers Left Alive by Jim Jarmusch.

But before reaching the notoriety he now knows, Tom Hiddleston also had to begin his career as an actor with smaller roles in more modest projects.

This is how in 2001, when he was only in his early twenties and still studying theater at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art from London, we could see him in the casting of The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby, a new television adaptation of the famous novel by Charles Dickens.

In this TV film also starring James D’Arcy (in the title role), Charles Dance and Dominic West, Tom Hiddleston played an anonymous lord who could notably be seen having a good time in a tavern or even refereeing a duel with a pistol.

Following this first appearance, the young actor would still play several small roles over the following years (for example in the series Casualty). In 2008, he landed one of the main roles in Inspector Wallander alongside Kenneth Branagh. Two years later, the latter will offer him the role of his life by choosing him to play the mischievous Loki in the new Marvel Cinematic Universe feature film: Thor.
