Accompanied by Marie-Castille Mention-Schaar, Claudine Nougaret, Paolo Moretti and Vladimir Perišić, Lubna Azabal will be responsible for awarding the Palme d’Or for short films, as well as the three La Cinef prizes, intended for school films . The competition promises to be intense with eleven films competing in this category, in addition to the eighteen films selected for La Cinef.

Lubna Azabal, whose main role in the film “Amal” by Moroccan director Jawad Rhalib is currently being praised by critics, commented enthusiastically on her nomination: “‘You who walk, there is no path, the path is made while walking” Antonio Machado. The Cannes Film Festival is one of those paths that we dream of crossing. The focus on young filmmakers presenting their short films and the paths taken to get there honor me. I can’t wait to discover its riches. It’s a journey that I want to be demanding and caring, short by short, step by step. Being selected in this mythical place is a message of love, global recognition and pride.”

This year, Lubna Azabal is not the only Moroccan representative to shine in the juries of the Cannes Film Festival. Indeed, director Asmae El Moudir, known for her acclaimed film “The Mother of All Lies”, will be part of the jury for the “Un Certain Regard” section, chaired by the talented Xavier Dolan.
