In 1853, Eugénie de Montijo (1826-1920) married Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte, who had become emperor under the name of Napoleon III a few weeks earlier. Until the fall of the Second Empire in 1870, which forced her into exile, this aristocrat of Spanish origin was the empress of the French. In an unpublished story, Virginie Girod tells you the story of a woman with a certain political sense, whose figure was nevertheless associated with a dark legend.
Topics covered: Second Empire, Bonapartism, 19th century
