She was the 8 year old girl the song was about Like you by Jean-Jacques Goldman, a tribute to Jewish children who were victims of the Shoah. Forty years later, the eldest of the French singing star’s six children also takes to the microphone to give voice to childhood suffering. Mother of four children aged 9 to 18, Caroline Goldman is a doctor in clinical psychopathology, university lecturer and child and adolescent psychologist who has been receiving families for over fifteen years in the office adjoining her house in Montrouge, in the Paris suburbs.

Author of the book, among others Go to your room published in 2020, she has become a fervent defender of strict parenting, based on psychoanalytic theory, against the precepts of so-called positive education which banish punishment from the family vocabulary. This position has earned her a lot of conversation. However, she knows how to speak to crowds: her 25-episode podcast entitled Caroline Goldman, le podcast, launched in March 2022, has generated more than 3 million listens. Published last week by Editions Flammarion, Today’s Parents’ Guide writes down her audio advice as well as her chronicles broadcast on France Inter. She gives very concrete advice on setting educational limits, understanding the needs of babies, approaching adolescence or managing screens. But she also passionately describes the pitfalls of what she considers to be the “excesses of the child psychiatry market”.
