Better graphics without losing fluidity and the contribution of AI: the Japanese group Sony announced Tuesday the worldwide launch on November 7 of a more powerful version of its flagship PlayStation console, the PS5 Pro. It will be sold at a price of 800 euros, or 250 euros more than the classic version. “This is the most powerful console we have ever built,” said Mark Cerny, Sony’s lead console architect since the PlayStation 4, during an online presentation.

He detailed for nearly nine minutes the features of this new high-end version, devoid of a disc drive (which will be available for purchase separately). The PS5 Pro promises to be 45% faster than the classic version, will have improved “ray-tracing” (rendering the trajectory of light rays, editor’s note) and will use artificial intelligence to improve the graphics of games. In a press release, Sony indicated that all PS5 games will be compatible with the Pro version, and some titles already released, like Alan Wake 2, or to come, like Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, will be able to take advantage of these new features.

While it is customary for players, with the latest generations of consoles, to have to choose between a game mode with the best graphics, to the detriment of fluidity, or another more stable but less detailed one, Mark Cerny affirms that they “will no longer have to decide between the two” thanks to this new version. “The consoles (…)
