Saturday February 1, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., a collection of donations will be held in the shopping malls of three supermarkets in Auch for the fight against cancer, the “Let’s throw away cancer” operation, supported by the local Rotary Club.
On Saturday, February 1, the Rotary Club is organizing its traditional “Throw Cancer” donation drive, a solidarity action in favor of the fight against the disease. This initiative, mainly carried out by volunteers from Rotary and the League Against Cancer, will take place in the shopping malls of Intermarché, Leclerc and Carrefour.
The principle is simple: offer supermarket customers the opportunity to exchange one euro for a shopping cart token. The tokens are made from potato starch, a biodegradable but sustainable material. In addition, electronic payment terminals will be available, allowing people wishing to make a donation but who do not have change to do so.

All donations collected will be donated in full to a national fund intended to finance the purchase of medical equipment for cancer screening and treatment. Created in 2015, this annual collection has raised more than 1.5 million euros in 10 years. “This is an extremely important way of providing subsidies, fortunately there are associative funds,” explains Jean-Pierre Duquesne, coordinator of the operation.
The Rotary Club invites residents to participate in this solidarity day, a simple but essential gesture to support the fight against cancer. “People with cancer really need to feel this surge of solidarity,” concludes Mr. Duquesne.
