Sony cancels two service games: a God of War title by Bluepoint (Demon’s Souls) and another by Bend (Days Gone) – News

In February 2022, we learned that ten service games were in development for the PS5 with Sony’s desire to release them all before 2026. A project which had caused a lot of ink to flow, but it is clear that the firm Japanese will not respect this commitment: we can already cite the multiplayer game The Last of Us nipped in the bud, without forgetting the (dramatic) failure of Concord which cost thousands and cents and led to the closure of the studio, of which it was the first title. So certainly, the brilliant success of Helldivers II came to counterbalance all that, but the company admits to having changed its directive “following a recent review”as she says so well to Bloomblerg.

The case is therefore published by Jason Schreier who, on Bloomberg, confirms the cancellation of two service games at Sony. On BlueSky, he also allows himself more details: one was a software God of War in development by Bluepoint Games (several rumors actually suggested that the studio was working on an episode of the franchise) while the other was in design at Bend Studio. This last entity gave birth to Days Gone in 2019 and has not proposed anything since: all we knew was that Days Gone 2 had been refused in favor of a mysterious multiplayer game. We now see a little more clearly.

And if you were worried that these two studios would close their doors following this change of plans, don’t worry: that won’t be the case. “Bend and Bluepoint are highly accomplished teams who are valued members of the PlayStation Studios family, and we are working closely with each studio to determine what their next projects are.”

It remains to be seen what these next projects will be. Will the content already developed be reused, in which case could Bluepoint then offer a new God of War episode while waiting for the sequel in Santa Monica? Let us recall in passing that another service game will indeed arrive on PS5 and PC: Fairgame$, developed by the brand new Haven studio with Jade Raymond at its head, the producer behind the saga Assassin’s Creed. We are talking here about an FPS which intends to revisit the heist genre with an aspect that is both cooperative and competitive, supported by extraction.
