Former magistrate Ibrahima Hamidou Dème is categorical regarding the immunities of political authorities. According to him, privileges and immunities must be put an end to, adding that they are the legacies of a system from another age.

Referring to the lifting of Farba Ngom’s parliamentary immunity, Mr. Dème maintains that it is provided for by law and that the implementation of the procedure with regard to a parliamentarian who is the subject of prosecution, does not poses no particular problem.

“What really poses a problem in my opinion is the maintenance of privileges and immunities,” he criticized, adding that this archaism is over in modern democracies.

Three days ago, former judge Ibrahima Hamidou Dème expressed serious concerns about the evolution of the financial judicial pool, an institution created to fight corruption and embezzlement of public funds, adding that it “seems follow the path of a justice misguided by its politicization.”
