On December 19, 2024, four agents of the General Directorate of External Security (DGSE) were released after a year of detention in Ouagadougou. This release was effective thanks to the good offices of Rabat.

According to Africa Intelligence, Morocco is also in talks with the Nigerien military junta to obtain the release of the deposed president, Mohamed Bazoum, detained in a wing of the presidential palace in Niamey since he was overthrown on July 26, 2023 by the military.
