The gynecologist defended her thesis in 1990 in Strasbourg entitled “ Breast cancers subclinical: about a retrospective series of 216 cases including 20 lobular cancers in situ “. Three years later, she was accepted into the national hospital practitioner competition.

Carole Mathelin has also written numerous articles in international scientific and medical journals.

Subsequently, she took the reins of the university degree “ Breast diseases » at the Faculty of Medicine of Strasbourg. Since 2022, the doctor has been a member of the CNU of gynecology-obstetrics. Carole Mathelin is also vice-president of the board of directors of the International Society of Senology and the SEVE association (Breasts and Life).

Finally, the new president of the Academy of Surgery has also been a knight of the Order of the Legion of Honor since 2021.

Carole Mathelin expressed her desire to perpetuate the excellence of French surgery.

Reducing inequalities in access to care is also among its priorities: “ my ambition is also to contribute to reducing inequalities in access to care, so that the benefits of tomorrow’s surgery are equitably accessible ».
