The Mambowa general reference hospital in the Lubero territory (North Kivu) is experiencing enormous difficulties in caring for patients due to lack of medication. Its medical director, Tembo Kipisa, pleads with the authorities for the supply of medicines in order to properly ensure the care of patients in this health zone which serves some 170,000 inhabitants.

The Biena health zone has been a victim of insecurity since June 2024, explains Doctor Tembo:

« There are shortages of certain important products in patient care. And the causes, it must still be said that the Biena health zone has been going through a moment of insecurity since June 2024. So, there are ADF who entered this health zone, who burned health centers”.

This hospital accommodates a large number of war-displaced people, most of them destitute, who lack the means to cover their medical expenses:

Another consequence, according to him, was “the closure of the majority of health areas in the Biena health zone. And so, only the hospital was operational and as a result, this hospital could accommodate a large number of sick people, destitute displaced people. The sick who were unable to pay their bills. And this caused significant losses in medicines.”

The population is not taken care of properly, recognizes Dr Tembo, asking the political-administrative authorities, at all levels, to come to the aid of the population of the Biena health zone, by providing them with pharmaceutical products.
