From January 1, 2025, a compulsory medical examination will be introduced for children aged 6, according to the recommendations of the High Council for Public Health (HCSP). This measure, adopted during the Pediatric Conference in May 2024, aims to optimize the monitoring of children’s health.
Why an exam at 6 years old?
The choice of the age of 6 years is based on specific considerations. Entry into preparatory courses (CP) marks a key stage of development, requiring significant academic and social adaptation. This examination aims to detect possible disorders or difficulties likely to compromise the academic success and well-being of the student.enfant.
According to the HCSP, this age is ideal for assessing essential aspects such as vision, hearing and even oral health, often linked to academic success.
A complete assessment for optimal monitoring
Cet medical examination includes an in-depth assessment of physical growth, sleep quality, screen exposure, and physical activity. It also checks vaccination status and psychosocial development, with particular attention paid to language, socialization and autonomy.
This global approach aims to early identify disorders likely to require medical or therapeutic treatment.
A reform without overburdening families
To integrate this new examination without adding to the schedule, the initial assessment planned between the 3rd week and the end of the 1st month ofenfant will be deleted. The total of 20 compulsory exams, scheduled until the age of 16, therefore remains unchanged. These consultations remain fully covered by Health Insurance.
With this reform, the objective is clear: to support each enfant in their education and development by guaranteeing medical monitoring adapted to the needs of their age.
