Tshopo: 7 suspected cases of meningitis reported in Banalia

Suspected cases of meningitis have been recorded since October 2024 in the Banalia health zone, precisely in the Mangi agglomeration, reports the communication service of the Provincial Health Division. Banalia is located 128 kilometers north of Kisangani (Tshopo). To deal with this situation, a team of medical personnel was dispatched to the scene for an intervention.
At the beginning of this week, a supervisor of the Banalia health zone, Djodjo Bolembe, reported 7 cases of this disease including 5 deaths.
The signs that patients present are similar to those of meningitis.
According to Djodjo Bolembe, there are numerous cases in the community with all the health consequences that this implies.
Still according to him, the sick are treated traditionally since the population does not have a medical culture.
Samples taken from certain patients were sent to the INRB in Kinshasa to determine the nature of this disease.
In relation to these samples, the Provincial Health Division deplores the slowness with which the results are communicated within the province.
Never mind, John Mundele, responsible for communications in this department, declares that a medical team is dispatched to the scene to take care of the sick.
Once the results are known, they will be determined on the nature of the disease, the signs of which are similar to those of meningitis.
If the required threshold is reached, he said, the provincial governor will be called upon to rule clearly and officially on the disease in question.
