the essential
Ambrun, a 9-year-old child suffering from brain cancer, was able to realize one of his dreams by getting into a sports car in Castelmoron-sur-Lot. A project led for several months by Loïc Méchain, aged 17.
After nine months of research and organization, Loïc Méchain, 17, finally accomplished his goal. “It was very long, but it was successful,” he admitted this Friday morning in Castelmoron-sur-Lot, on the banks of the river. This audiovisual enthusiast, from Bon Encontre, had been looking since the beginning of the year for a sick child to enable him to realize one of his dreams: getting into a beautiful car. Clément, an acquaintance of Loïc through his best friend, learned of the existence of this project thanks to one of the many announcements posted on social networks. He then decided to talk to his uncle and aunt, whose son Ambrun has brain cancer discovered a year and a half ago. Contact was then established between the two parties at the end of December.
An unforgettable moment
“We jumped at the opportunity because he experienced some things that were not obvious in 2024,” emphasizes the father, Anthony. In particular, he had very heavy chemotherapy and radiotherapy.” Followed in the pediatric oncology department in Marseille, the 9-year-old boy returns to Castelmoron every school holiday with his parents, where part of their family lives. “This is where Ambrun feels best,” remarks the mother, Virginie.
It’s impossible to count all the stars in Ambrun’s eyes who, at around 11 a.m., saw the white Ferrari 458 Italia that he had chosen from among the cars proposed by Jean Philip come crashing down. The latter, aged 21, has known Loïc for two years after asking him for his audiovisual projects. He did not hesitate to lend his car for this unforgettable moment. “We get along well because I think we are on the same wavelength. We just had to try to find a niche.”
Twenty minutes of pure happiness
After looking at the car from the outside, Ambrun got into the red driver’s seat. The young boy, wearing a pilot’s hat on his head, was even able to start the engine, helped by Loïc to reach the brake pedal. His joy was read more in his huge smile than in his little voice, no doubt impressed by the build of the car. After a photo shoot, he was then able to take a ride alongside Jean Philip. Twenty minutes of pure happiness, forever engraved in the memories of the whole family.
Loïc would like to bring these moments to life again: “It brings to fruition almost nine months of research. If possible, I would like to continue doing other similar projects.”
