It continues to gain ground in France. Like every winter, the flu is indeed present in the territory. And this year, it is particularly virulent. “We see a majority of type A flu, and for 50% of them, the famous H1N1 flu which gives particularly severe forms”, indicates on the microphone of Pascal Praud and you Benjamin Davido.

So to maximize your chances of not catching it, the infectious disease specialist recalls the importance of barrier gestures, without forgetting vaccination “even if we know it, it is rarely effective: we estimate between 45% and 55% [d’immunité, ndlr]but it prevents serious forms and avoids unnecessary hospitalizations”. And to remind: “it is never too late to get vaccinated”.
What if I catch it?
In the event of contamination, Benjamin Davido recalls that there are antivirals including “Tamiflu, which are extremely effective, particularly in people who have comorbidities”. A treatment “all the more effective if it is started early, within 48 hours and ideally within 24 hours”. As a reminder, since the flu is a viral disease, antibiotics are ineffective.
