Here are some tips to help get back on your feet if the holiday season and its gatherings bring viruses with them.

While a few days of rest can sometimes be enough to cure the flu or gastro, a high fever that lasts a long time, a headache that increases in intensity or severe stomach aches may require a consultation.

The Here to help you web page of the CISSS de la Montérégie-Centre contains information, advice and concrete resources to answer citizens’ questions when a health problem concerns them. A page is also specifically designed for children’s health.

In other cases, support from a nurse may be needed for health advice. At Info-Santé (811, option 1), a nurse can answer questions, assess the situation and recommend actions to take.

It is also possible to consult a pharmacist.

However, “chest pain, difficulty breathing or an injury to a limb may require an emergency consultation. In the case of acute health problems that require immediate care, you should not hesitate to go there,” indicates the CISSS de la Montérégie-Centre.

Need an appointment

Different options are available to make an appointment

-Make an appointment with your family doctor or specialist nurse practitioner (IPS)

-Contact 811 option 3 or write to gap.soinsvirtuels.gouv.qc.ca if you are not being followed by a doctor or an IPS. A nurse from the First Line Access Center (GAP) will quickly assess the situation and give you advice. If necessary, the GAP will offer you an appointment with a doctor or with the health professional most appropriate to your situation.

Sadness

During more difficult times such as a separation or bereavement, the pain can be greater during this time of year. The CISSS de la Montérégie-Centre invites people in these situations and who feel sad to call 811, option 2 (Info-Social). A counselor is available at all times.
