New Alençon hospital: stakeholders validate the strategic orientations of the construction project

A steering committee (COPIL) dedicated to the construction project of the new Alençon hospital met on December 10, 2024 under the co-chairmanship of the Prefect of Orne, the Director General of the Regional Health Agency (ARS ) , the vice-president of the Normandy Region and the Mayor of Alençon, Chairman of the establishment’s supervisory board, with all the partners (Urban Community of Alençon, Orne departmental council, state services, Orne psychotherapy center and LNA Santé – Alençon clinic).

As a reminder, the hospital center reconstruction project was selected in 2021 as part of the Segur regional investment strategy in Normandy 2021-2030, with major support from the State (€61.5M) and the Normandy Region ( €61.5M) – or more than 80% of the forecast budget – making it possible to provide a response to improve the healthcare offering in the large living area of Alençon. The city of Alençon will make available, once the acquisitions are completed, for the symbolic euro, the land necessary for the project.

After several months of work to define the medical project of the establishment and its real estate dimensioning with all the partners in the territory, the COPIL was able to validate the strategic orientations of this construction project:

  • Reconstruction of a hospital with a “medicine, surgery, obstetrics” (MCO) activity of 173 beds and 61 places taking into account the needs of the territory and the evolution of medical and organizational practices. In particular, the choice of this capacity integrates reflections on the expected acceleration of the ambulatory shift with, in particular, the expected significant development of surgery and ambulatory medicine over the coming years.

  • Strengthening territorial pooling of pharmacy and laboratory activities with the establishments of the Territorial Hospital Group;

  • Cooperation between the hospital center and the LNA clinic as part of this construction project to consider pooling activities to serve patients in the region;

  • Creation of a joint culinary production unit with the Alençon Urban Community serving all stakeholders in the region.

The project thus validated by the COPIL amounts to €150M for the hospital center (equipment included) and will allow the region to benefit from a new establishment with optimal care conditions, quality of life at work and attractiveness. towards improved professionals by the end of 2030.
