Forty-nine thousand children in the Bakel department (east) were vaccinated against measles and rubella, during the vaccination campaign against these two diseases, which took place from December 2 to 11, 2024.

« After the campaign, we have a feeling of satisfaction, because we were asked to vaccinate almost 55,000 children. At the end, we vaccinated 49,000 children “, declared Goumba Lô, chief medical officer of the Bakel health district.

He spoke with journalists, following an evaluation meeting of the vaccination campaign against measles and rubella, in the presence of several nurses from the department.

According to Dr. Lô, the objective of a vaccination coverage rate of 95% has been achieved. However, he noted that some children could not be vaccinated.

« There was no case of refusal and the population adhered », he rejoiced.

« i[Nous remercions surtout le secteur de l’éducation. La plupart des enfants [09 mois à 14 ans] were in schools. The teachers really helped the nurses do their work,” praised Goumba Lô.

Since 2021, he said, no cases of measles have been recorded in the Bakel health district.

« Since the start of the year, we have sent 19 samples from suspected cases to Dakar, but all came back negative “, he reassured.
