The end of the year is approaching, and before everyone shares their picks for the best games of the past 12 months, review site Metacritic has revealed its list of the “worst video games of 2024” based on their Metascore.
To appear in this ranking, the ten titles (or should we say “bottom ten”?) had to have been launched between January 1 and December 31, 2024 and receive at least four professional reviews. It should be noted that if a game appeared multiple times on the list due to its launches on different platforms, only the lowest rated version was included.
This year, the list was expanded to include mobile and VR versions, although that hasn’t stopped some games available on Switch from slipping into the rankings.
Titles like Metal Slug Attack Reloaded, Looney Tunes: Wacky World of Sports, and TRANSFORMERS: Galactic Trials were all mentioned this year (although it wasn’t necessarily the Switch version that was to blame), but none of them was poorly reviewed to the point of competing with Utopia City, which arrived on Steam last month despite launching over 20 years ago.

Last year, it was The Lord of the Rings: Gollum that took the top spot – remember, at one point it was supposed to be released on Switch? The list of top-rated games of the year is expected to be released in the coming weeks, providing a slightly more positive outlook.
