This Wednesday, December 4, the five Lions clubs of the Basin were at the Alès-Cévennes Hospital Center to provide basic necessities to disadvantaged and homeless people.
No emergency in the cardiology room of the Alès hospital center this Wednesday, December 4 at 11:30 a.m. But countless products, spread out on the central table. Underwear, toothpaste, shower gel… The five Lions Clubs of the Basin (Alès Doyen, Alès Vallées des Gardons, Alès Fémina, Alès Passion, and Lions Saint-Hilaire-de-Brethmas) came together to donate premium products need.
Like every year, it is through charitable events that funds are raised to help disadvantaged people when they are taken care of by Chac.
“We are trying to restore their health. You restore their dignity”
“We’ve been here for 20 years“, recalls Bertrand Nogaret, former president of the Alès-Cévennes flying club and active member of the Lions Alès Doyen. “At the time, it was a doctor from Marseille, a member of the Lions, who was startled to see homeless people arriving without underwear.“. Éric Bard, president of Alès Doyen, delivers a short but impactful speech: “The hospital is a place where people come to seek help. […] This gift, although simple, brings comfort to those who lack it.“
Pascal Westrelin, deputy director of Chac, is present: “Unfortunately, it’s a pleasure to see you again,” he smiles. “Through this gesture, you help us to improve the daily lives of patients and poor people who expect humane care from us.“. The deputy director recalled the importance of the mission of the Alesian associative fabric during this Christmas period: “We try to restore their health. You give them dignity“.
