As of Wednesday, November 27, a revolutionary self-test detecting the three viruses will be available in pharmacies, reports Le Parisien. It will be sold for 10 euros, without health insurance coverage.
It is a product that could attract many French people to pharmacies as winter approaches. As recounted The ParisianTuesday November 26, a first self-test detecting Covid-19, flu and bronchiolitis will be available in pharmacies from this Wednesday November 27. Accessible to adults and children, the “All in triplex” test from the French group AAZ will be sold freely, around 10 euros per unit. As with Covid self-tests, no coverage by Health Insurance for this self-test is planned.
Already accessible in hundreds of pediatric or adult emergency departments, this device has also been available from certain pharmacists since last summer, for a few euros out of pocket for patients. “This is the last step, to be able to reach as many people as possible“, explains the director of AAZ, Fabien Larue, to our colleagues. Especially since the flu epidemic is starting in France, that of bronchiolitis is already well established and there is the threat of a new wave of Covid-19 in the coming weeks.
AAZ boasts very high reliability, the High Authority for Health is more measured
This test, which is carried out nasally, consists of rotating a sponge-shaped tip for around fifteen seconds in each nostril. Once the maneuver has been carried out, you must immerse the tip in a narrow container and wait for the result to arrive. Made up of three strips of different colors, corresponding to Covid-19, influenza and bronchiolitis, the result is negative if only one strip is displayed and positive if there are two. If AAZ boasts reliability “close to 100%“concerning its self-test, the High Authority for Health (HAS) is more measured and points the finger”sensitivity levels significantly lower than those displayed on the instructions“.
