A case of contagious tuberculosis was detected on the Pasteur campus in Rouen, mobilizing students and teachers for screening.
A case of contagious tuberculosis has been confirmed on the Pasteur campus of the faculty of Rouen (Seine-Maritime), announced the Normandy Regional Health Agency (ARS), information relayed by France 3. At the origin of this detection , an in-depth investigation carried out by the Tuberculosis Control Center identified around 70 close contacts: around sixty students and around ten teachers. These people were invited to carry out a screening including chest x-ray and blood test.
A disease that affects the lungs
An infectious disease caused by the bacteria Mycobacterium tuberculosis, tuberculosis mainly affects the lungs but can spread to other organs. It is transmitted by air during prolonged contact in a confined environment. If it is not treated, it can progress seriously. Symptoms, although not specific, include persistent cough, fever, weight loss and night sweats.
In France, between 4,000 and 5,000 cases are recorded each year according to the epidemiological tuberculosis surveillance bulletin cited by the ARS. This disease remains mandatory for reporting, requiring increased vigilance from health authorities.
