Here are the 5 countries where we consume the most ultra-processed foods, according to a study

Ultra-processed products are very popular in many countries, particularly for their ease of use. Which countries consume the most?

Prepared meals, sweets, biscuits… All these products that we find in our cupboards are ultra-processed. Several studies have established a link between their excessive consumption and many health problems, such as diabetes, obesity or even depressive symptoms.

A study published in 2023 in the British Medical Journal shed light on differences in eating habits between the 32 countries studied, Statista reported. Thus, the proportion of ultra-processed foods consumed daily varies greatly from one country to another.

Americans are the biggest consumers

The United States is the largest consumer of this type of product. Ultra-processed foods represent more than half of their diet, or 58% of the calories ingested daily.

The UK is just behind, with 57% of daily calories coming from ultra-processed foods. The two countries are ahead of Canada (48%), Sweden (42%) and Germany (38%).

As for , it is in sixth position, with 31% of calories coming from ultra-processed products ingested each day.
