Cases of whooping cough on the rise

Several cases of whooping cough have been reported in nurseries in the department.

Even though the number of cases of whooping cough has decreased significantly since the introduction of the vaccine, the bacteria continues to circulate. Since the start of the year, cases of whooping cough have increased sharply in France. More than 6,000 cases have been recorded, some of which were in nurseries in the department.

Infants too young to be vaccinated and adolescents and adults who have lost vaccine protection are the most affected populations.

A very contagious disease which can sometimes be dangerous for vulnerable people such as pregnant women, the elderly and especially infants.

As with covid, barrier gestures should be adopted such as wearing a mask, washing your hands well and also checking your vaccination. Since 2022, you can also get vaccinated directly in pharmacies.
