Saving your Steam and Steamdeck games is now possible: here’s how

Recording your games on PC just got a lot easier with Steam’s new feature, Recording games. This feature allows you to capture and share any gameplay footage from your Steam library.

Although it is still in the testing phase, players will be able to use this feature to record any clip of their gaming sessions. Additionally, they will be able to edit these clips and the share on social networks.

We will have two recording modes, to choose between Background recording et Manual recording. According to Steam, for the first mode, “ Steam will start recording video automatically when you start playing […] The last 120 minutes of video will be kept for you to play or save as clips.”

If you choose to save manually, “Steam will only start recording when you press Ctrl+F11. All recordings will be automatically saved as clips. You can also decide not to record anything, which you can do simply by disabling the option.

To ensure your privacy, Steam only records your gameplay, not your desktop. You can select which audio channels to capture and all clips will then be saved locally.

This option is available in both the desktop version of Steam and on Steamdeck, provided you are using the steam beta. To access it, go to SettingsThen Interfaceand finally Participation in customer beta. To configure recordings, select again Settings after that Recording games.
