Update on means of action and support for people with cognitive disorders in Charleroi

Since 2015, Charleroi has adhered to the “Dementia Friendly City” charter. “This commitment has materialized through initiatives and projects implemented by our Health department”underlined the alderman. She insisted on the Alzheimer reference guide, developed by local experts for patients and their loved ones. Through around fifteen sheets, this guide provides advice to improve the comfort of patients, addresses the layout of their living spaces, adapting the working hours of caregivers, etc., all with local addresses. The document can be downloaded from the City website and available in paper version on request. It is updated every two years.

For his part, Philippe Van Cauwenberghe underlined the quality of the support for people with Alzheimer’s or dementia, both at home and in the CPAS reception structures. “We work with local partners and operators like the Alzheimer’s League.” Flyers presenting existing systems are available to citizens. Cultural projects mobilize facilitators and families every year. Each year, a day of respite is finally organized for loved ones.
