Over the past two weeks, 28 cases of whooping cough have been confirmed in the region. Following this increase, Côte-Nord Public Health suggests preventive actions, particularly for pregnant women and young children.

The Public Health Department invites pregnant women to be vaccinated between the 26th and 32nd weeks of pregnancy. The vaccine can be given until the end of pregnancy if it has not been administered before 33 weeks of gestation.

Vaccination of pregnant women is very effective in preventing whooping cough and its complications in babies. Parents of young children are also invited to respect the vaccination schedule.

Contagious lung disease

Whooping cough is a contagious lung disease characterized by uncontrollable coughing ending in choking or vomiting. Children under the age of one are at greater risk of developing severe forms of the disease. It is therefore important to protect them.

People who have not been adequately vaccinated can obtain protection against whooping cough by making an appointment online at Clic Santé or by telephone at 1 844 407-0967. People who have a persistent cough are encouraged to wear a mask to protect their loved ones.
